The 5th World Children's Festival takes place this June 30th to July 4th in Washington. Opening with a three-day public celebration at The Ellipse-"President's Park" south of The White House, the WCF Awards Banquet will be on July 3rd, followed by a communal celebration of U.S. Independence on July 4th.
The WCF workshops and activities are based on STEAMS Education-the ICAF's pioneering approach to integrate art and culture (signified by the "A") and sport and play (the "S") with STEM disciplines for children's holistic development.
Our educational focus on June 30th is on Health & Environment-concerns shared by every child. On July 1st we highlight Creativity & Imagination-the inner world of the child and his or her creative potential enhancement. On July 2nd we showcase Peace & Leadership-the development of empathy so the child cooperates with out-groups and helps others.
All workshops and activities take place in a "pavilion" - a large tent. Workshops are for an hour (60 minutes) while a hands-on activity is scheduled for two hours (120 minutes). The WCF at The Elipse will open at 10:00 am each day, closing at 7:00 pm on June 30th and July 1st but at 5:00 pm on July 2nd. Workshops start at 11:00 am and continue until the end of day.
There is no fee to host a workshop or activity at the WCF and there is no honoraria or financial support. Workshop leaders and activity organizers receive an Award Certificate at the WCF. They may be interviewed by media outlets or by the ICAF for its ChildArt magazine or WCF video. The only ticketed event is the WCF Awards Banquet on July 3rd for which workshop leaders and activity organizers can purchase tickets at a discount.
