The World Children's Festival is the ‘Olympics’ of our creativity and co-creation. Held every four years since 1999, the WCF has evolved into our largest international celebration and a permanent quadrennial event in our Nation's Capital. We bring together our diverse global communities to share with them a transformative experience that empowers us to shape the future and change the world.
The WCF on June 17-19, 2011 is a perfectly timed and exceptional American celebration for the whole world to join in. Our festival is free and open to everyone. At our first WCF on June 29 — July 5, 1999, 50 of us from 50 countries co–created a large mural outlined by the world map. First lady Hilary Rodham Clinton sent us a warm welcoming message. She said that we challenge her “to embrace the future confident that with an open mind and a lively spirit we will find in the next century and the new millennium a universe of possibilities for our creative gifts.”
Former first lady Betty Ford wrote to us: “As we stand at the doorstep of the twenty-first century, the world will look to you for solutions and leadership. Congratulations to all of you and may your creativity and imagination continue to pave the road for future generations.”
Former first lady Rosalynn Carter also wrote to us: “I encourage you to continue to cultivate your imagination and artistic talents. As we approach the new millennium, the world will look to you for future leadership. I hope you will remember that the greatest achievements come from the most creative minds.”
At our 2nd WCF on September 9 — 11, 2003 Mayor Anthony Williams issued an Official Proclamation declaring September 11 as “Children’s Peace Day”. We worked with a very famous artist, Mr. George Rodriguez from Louisiana, and together we painted the Art for Peace mural.
At our 3rd WCF on June 23 — 25, 2007, we launched the WORLD CHILDREN’S AWARDS. We present these awards to creative companies and creative leaders who support us and our ideas. We gave the first award to LEGO. Many important people came to our festival to speak to us. From the Pentagon Lt. Gen. Jim Campbell, Director of the U.S. Army Staff, came. He told our parents: “We must start with the education of our children in order for the following leaders to effectively handle the geopolitical and international problems that our world currently faces.”
